KKK- EXTRA CREDIT
The KKK was formed after the American Civil War; it stands for Ku Klux Klan. There goal was to get rid of all the non whites in America. They were basically a hate group against blacks. After a while they started hating non-Christians. For example: Jews, Catholics, immigrants and other minority groups. They would torture, beat up, and sometimes even kill them. They were white robes and they believe in burning the cross. Once you think the Klan has ended, it rises back up again. Unfortunately, the KKK still exists today; it is more prominent in the South than it is in the North.
Political Cartoon- labor unions
This picture shows all the union workers coming together. It symbolizes how people are a lot stronger and more effective when they work together instead of working individually. It also shows that the real men behind Industrialism were the workers. They lead the age of Industry by all the iron and steel they produced.
Brief History of Labor Unions
In the late 1800s, workers were forming labor unions. The unions set out to improve the lives of workers. After the cotton gin and the steam-powered loom were invented, they needed lots of workers to work in the factories. These workers were frequently abused, they had very low pay, and they worked for long hours. Plus, it was not uncommon for workers to have work related deaths; working in the factories was very dangerous.
Manifest Destiny
This picture shows how the angel is leading the American settlers to there destiny. There destiny is to expand westward so they can spread Christianity to all the native Americans. The American settlers want to save the natives. You can see that everything before the angel is bright and light but infront of the angel everything is dark. This shows that the settlers believe that they need to save everyone from the 'dark'. Save them with Jesus.

Feb. 5- Questions
Law Creating the Freedmen's Bureau
1. After
reading the Bill, what plans do you see laid out for the former slaves?
Maybe get some free land that they were distributing then work and get money.
They could have added something about health issues. Everyone gets sick so the blacks should have more exposure to some type of medical treatment. I don't see anything major that should be taken out. If I had to pick something, it would probably be the whole part with the commissioner.
A problem could have been that they were still not equal. And something they would be happy about is that the Secretary of War gave them clothes, fuel, and temporary shelters; they were also helping the blacks get jobs.
Southern Treatment by
the Federal Government,
American Life Histories:
Manuscripts from the Federal Writer's Project, 1936-1940
1. What is her
attitude toward white Southerners and their treatment by the federal
government?
She is not particularly fond of it.
She did not like it when the soldiers were shooting at the blacks to scare them off. The soldiers did not want the black men to vote and she did not like that.
There is always going to be two sides of an argument. Not everybody will agree with her because they don't like the changes that are happening; unfortunately they are anything but peaceful.

Recontruction Cartoon
Even though the blacks were giving the right to vote, people were still giving them a hard time about it. In the picture below, the black man is trying to put his vote in the box but the flies (representing the states that voted against ratifying the 15th amendent) are buzzing around him giving him trouble.
